On this part of the path it seems that the path has been paved. But it's the sandstone banks that come to the surface here. The road literally cuts into those sandstands, but because they are quite resistant, they form small steps. These sandstand banks are a local natural stone that forms in the sand layers of the Busselian sand or Formation de Bruxelles. That layer of sand was deposited here in a shallow sea in the tertiary.
