With 50 chocolatiers, a chocolate museum and a chocolate festival, Bruges is the chocolate capital of Belgium.
In Bruges you can also do a chocolate walk, with or without a guide (buy the map at choco-story), eat a chocolate dinner (only on request - restaurant Patrick Devos) and a chocolate wellness (at Belle wellness).
Cocoa has stimulated our sense of taste for centuries : from the spicy divine drink among the Maya and Aztecs to the popular sweet chocolate milk in Europe. If you know that more than three quarters of people love chocolate, it is not surprising that the fascination for this exquisite delicacy is very great. Frequently asked questions are, for example, “Where does chocolate come from?”, “How did chocolate conquer Europe?” , “What is the secret of delicious chocolate?”, “What is the role of the industrial revolution in the popularity of chocolate?”, “Why was chocolate once a medicine?”.
Choco-Story aims to answer these and other questions and brings the 5,500-year history of chocolate to life in words, images and taste. The museum consists of 3 parts and tells the origin and evolution of chocolate on the basis of a unique collection of almost a thousand objects. In addition to the history, the museum also shows how chocolate is made, with special attention to the varied raw materials and the production process from the past and present. In the demonstration center, visitors will be able to discover the secret behind beautifully glossy chocolate and taste the chocolate products made on site for themselves .
