On the corner of Gaullelaan and Leopoldlaan is the municipal school Jean Noté , a former primary school and caretaker school, built by the municipality of Tournai in 1878 in Flemish Renaissance style.
As usual, the complex is built around playgrounds surrounded by walls and classrooms accessed through two different monumental entrances ; one for boys on Avenue de Gaulle and another for girls on Leopoldlaan. A third entrance provides access to the caretaker school.
The construction of the school took a lot of effort because it was felt that this school palace was too prestigious for the child from the 'average family'.
In 1914, the destroyed school was rebuilt in an identical manner.
