Compared to Maredsous, Maredret is an oasis of peace. In an impressive neo-Gothic building, a few Benedictine nuns still live. In the shop, they sell jam, apple juice, and their own artisanal beers, the Altus and Triplus. The recipes are inspired by the knowledge of Hildegard of Bingen, a nun who used medicinal plants to treat ailments as early as the 11th century.
