Land of Herve

The Land of Herve looks like one of the more flourishing regions in the province of Liège. This may be due to its location between two historically very active industrial agglomerations: on one side, the suburbs of Liège, with metallurgy in Herstal and Seraing, and the mine of Blegny, which closed only recently (in 1980); on the other side, the region around Verviers, where the wool industry kept prosperity high until recently. The Land of Herve has thus been able to benefit from both sides and has managed to combine the best of both with its own agricultural area, in this case, fruit growing. Daily life there revolves around farming and the artisanal production of butter, cheese, and syrup.
