The Ochre Valley begins in Oker, a small industrial town east of Goslar, and runs past Romkerhall to the Ochre reservoir. The 260 m long dam was built in the 1950s for flood prevention and energy production. Unterschulenberg and Mittelschulenberg then disappeared forever under the surface of the water. Legend has it that you can sometimes make out a church tower in the reservoir, that you can hear the ringing of bells... Schulenberg itself was completely rebuilt.
