The Hotel Elephant is a luxury hotel in Weimar and part of the Autograph Collection brand of Marriott International. The hotel also includes the gourmet restaurant Anna Amalia, which has been awarded a Michelin star continuously since 2003, under the direction of Marcello Fabbri, and the restaurant Elephantenkeller, which specializes in Thuringian cuisine.
It was founded in 1696 as an inn in the marketplace by the princely cupbearer Christian Andreas Barritig. Soon after, the inn was expanded to become a post station and lodging for merchants and travelers. Already in 1711, the geographer and polymath Johann Gottfried Gregorii, alias Melissantes, recommended in his Baroque regional and travel guide "Das jetzt florierende Thüringen" the overnight stay at the Logierhaus Elephant.
