The former Lippe Lock Datteln was built in 1826 in Datteln at Haus Vogelsang. It is therefore also called Vogelsang Lock.
The Lippe was made navigable in the 19th century through various weirs and locks up to Lippstadt. At Haus Vogelsang, there was a pronounced marl step with rapids that was to be flooded. Although the construction had been considered necessary long before, it was only a Prussian cabinet order of August 28, 1824 that provided the required funds.
