The Elbschloss Brewery was founded in 1881 in the Prussian Nienstedten and was the only significant industrial enterprise in this location. It was built on parts of the former parkland that belonged to the classical country house Baur, constructed by Christian Frederik Hansen between 1804 and 1806. The country house Baur was commonly referred to as "Elbschlösschen," from which the name of the brewery was derived.
The most well-known brand of this brewery was the Ratsherrn Pils, which is estimated to have been brewed in a volume of 150,000 hectoliters in 1978. Furthermore, the dark Pils Dübelsbrücker Dunkel, created in 1988, was brewed, named as a reference to the nearby Teufelsbrück.
