The Ilse rises on the slope of the 278 m high Bickplecken and flows from its source initially in a south-easterly direction, flows through Welstorf and Kirchheide, reaches Bredaerbruch and Entrup. From about the Steinmühle, south of Entrup, the Ilse flows westwards, flows through Leese and from there flows southwards and flows into the Bega in Lieme at Bega kilometre 12. The Ilse flows exclusively in the area of the city of Lemgo.
