On August 16, 1925, the Rheinische Städtebundtheater GmbH was founded with headquarters in Neuss. In addition to the seat city of Neuss, the members of the sponsoring association were the municipalities of Buer, Kleve, Emmerich, Gladbeck, Kohlscheid, Stolberg as well as the art community of Lüdenscheid and the district of Solingen. In 1937 it was renamed the "Rheinisches Landestheater". For the 30th anniversary of the theatre, the city had the building built in Drususallee, which remained the permanent venue of the stage until 2000. In 1981, the Rheinisches Landestheater merged with the Theater am Niederrhein Kleve, with which it had previously cooperated. On December 16, 2000, the new venue, in the "Horten-Haus", was opened on Oberstraße.
