The port is located in the north of Bonn on the Middle Rhine at Rhine kilometer 658 on the left side and is surrounded by the Bonn district of Graurheindorf. One kilometer to the north, the Sieg flows into the Rhine, marking the end of the Middle Rhine.
In 1907, August Am Zehnhoff founded a commercial shipyard at the height of today's Beethoven Hall. In 1924, the company moved to Graurheindorf to its current location. Large parts of the port were destroyed during World War II. Subsequently, the company Am Zehnhoff-Söns rebuilt and expanded the port. In 2004, the company, together with the Bonn municipal utilities, founded Bonn Hafenbetriebe GmbH and took over the operational business.
