Sennewitz is a locality of the municipality of Petersberg in the Saalekreis region of Saxony-Anhalt. The formerly independent municipality has been a district of the municipality of Götschetal since July 1, 2006. Since January 1, 2010, Sennewitz has been part of the unified municipality of Petersberg. On June 30, 2005, there were 1,718 people living in Sennewitz.
The village was first mentioned in documents in 1182. Sennewitz belonged to the Giebichenstein office in the Saalekreis of the Archbishopric of Magdeburg. With its annexation to Prussia, the place became part of the Brandenburg-Prussian Duchy of Magdeburg from 1680.
