It was here on this spot on the old Nürburgring in the left bend before Bergwerk that Niki Lauda crasht into the vanguards. He almost burned alive when the wreck flared, but he was rescued by four drivers who came right behind him and saw the seriousness of the accident. They stopped immediately and jumped out of their cars to save him. This happened in 1976.
