The Ancient Hospice of Oviedo is a historical and artistic monument located on Gil de Jaz street in the city, in Asturias, Spain. Since 1972, it has housed the Hotel Reconquista and is one of the two main venues for the Princess of Asturias Awards along with the Campoamor Theater.
In 1752, the construction of the Hospice Hospital of Oviedo began under the order of Isidoro Gil de Jaz, regent of the audience of the Principality of Asturias. He proposed to the Crown a "Hospice and Hospital for Orphans, Foundlings, and the Helpless," with the aim of taking in orphans and disabled individuals and providing them with an education that would allow them to develop some type of work.
