After the collapse of the first new bridge in 1741 , the need arose to improve this development of the city due to the large flows of people and goods that had to use it again.
The bridge's old Arabic gate was replaced and enlarged by the current one during the reign of the first Bourbon to the Spanish throne, Felipe V, in 1742 , as evidenced by the inscription on the stone next to the gate.
This symbol of the city consists of a carved double arch topped by three pinnacles and adorned on the outside with the coat of arms of the Anjou family and the royal coat of arms of the Bourbon .
