This building known as St. Genest's Chapel was originally a Gothic mansion built in the 12th century. At the corner of the rue d'Enfer and the Jurue, was the neighbouring house, known in the Messinian tradition as the asylum of Rabelais during his stay in Metz from 1542 to 1547. All that remains of it today is a door and a window raised against the wall at the end of the small garden.
