In 1820, the second son of Charles X, the Duke of Berry, is assassinated by L.P. Louvel, a Bonapartist who wants to put an end to the Bourbon line. The Duke of Berry dies without children, but a posthumous son, the Duke of Bordeaux, is born on September 29 of the same year, the feast of Saint Michael. A year later, this statue commissioned by Viscount Elie de Pons Saint-Maurice, lord of Grignols, is inaugurated in honor of this child. Henri V of Bourbon, Duke of Bordeaux and Count of Chambord, is the legitimate claim to the throne of France.
