In 1433, the spring flowing at the foot of the Notre-Dame tower would have instantly filled the ditch which was dry, thus repelling an assault by the troops of Robert de Sarrbrücke, lord of Commercy.
The Linéens came to take water from this spring which cured benign eye diseases (stye). The neo-gothic chapel, which houses the medieval statue, was built in 1902.
