St John's Priory on 2 continents!
A listed monument among the oldest in Poitou, almost a thousand years old. Built in the 11th century, the Priory of Saint-Jean is in reality a vast Abbey richly endowed with the origin of the Anjou appellation wines of the North Vienne sector; the Benedictine monks from the Abbey of BOURGUEIL imported the first vineyard plan in 1076 and innovated by building a remarkable and unique architecture identifying the transition period of the end of Romanesque art and the beginning of Gothic art for the West of France.
