The existence of this 1-meter-diameter monolith is estimated at 45 million years. According to a legend dating from 1124, it was thrown down from the heavens as a sign of God's curse, when the villagers failed to pay the tithe due to the abbey of Longeville-lès-Saint-Avold. A meteorite? Most likely, this monolith, unique in the region, was deposited here by powerful streams flowing down from the Vosges during the retreat of the seas in prehistoric times. It was mounted on a pedestal in 1965 and now stands to the right of the staircase leading to the church.
