Polder Itinerary is a project carried out as part of the Delta Aa Flood Prevention Action Program. Several routes allow you to discover the territory of the Wateringues, where water management is constantly necessary, particularly to prevent flooding.

Over the centuries, through hard work and determination, the inhabitants of the Wateringues have reclaimed land from the sea. The entire hydraulic system, fully dedicated to water control, has been refined by each generation, always aiming to hold back the sea and regulate the flow of freshwater.

The history of the Wateringues is inseparable from that of Bergues. Established on the edge of the old coastal marshes, on an isolated hill, the Groenberg (Green Mountain), the municipality is one of the starting points for humanity's conquest of the sea. By exploring the "Wateringues Heritage" loop, you will discover the story of the land's drainage, as well as a unique ancient, current and intangible heritage.
