The villa owes its name to its scenic position on a hill overlooking the road, completely immersed in greenery. It is accessed via an avenue that winds up the slope, flanked by as many as 189 trees including cypress, cedar of Lebanon, and citrus.
It was built from scratch in the 18th century and decorated with numerous frescoes, according to the fashion then prevalent among the Pisan nobility to build leisure homes in the area around San Giuliano, which had become a destination for the thermal tourism of the European aristocracy during that period.
