Ouddorp is primarily a beloved seaside resort with a wide and long beach located in a beautiful dune area.
The village may have originated as early as the year 900. This makes Ouddorp by far the oldest village in Goeree-Overflakkee. The village church is dedicated to Saint Martin. In 1418, a plundering and arson occurred by Duke Jan of Brabant during the Hook and Cod wars, and in 1490 by Lord Frans van Brederode and Lord Jan van Naaldwijk. Around 1594, Ouddorp had a 'Dutch Reformed congregation'. Today, the village has six church denominations.
Ouddorp has long been a very insular community. The Goeree dialect (spoken in Ouddorp and Goedereede) is very different from Dutch and is fully Zeelandic. The percentage of dialect speakers in Ouddorp is very high (the highest in all of Goeree-Overflakkee).
