The Maze on Texel is a small forest on the southeastern slope of the Hoge Berg west of Oudeschild. Although it is small, it stands out due to its high location and strongly determines the surrounding landscape.
The history of the grove begins in 1764 when commissioner and commies Cornelis Roepel bought a piece of land of 17 acres on the Hoge Berg. From here there was and is a beautiful view of the Texelse Rede. In addition, there is a small hill in the area. From this hill there are stories on Texel that a large boulder is hidden in it. The boulder is called the English Stone because it would run all the way under the North Sea to England. The hill can be climbed via seven steps: 'the seven pancakes'.
