The Oelemars is a large sand extraction pit where sand is still extracted. It consists largely of a puddle excavated to a depth of 15 metres. The sand extraction is located in the De Zandbergen-Oelemars area, an agricultural, recreational and nature reserve between Losser and the German border. Originally this is mainly a swamp and heathland. The name Oelemars means 'swamp in which owls occur'. The municipality of Losser has developed a vision for the future of the entire area.
