Utopia

Utopia is a nature reserve on Texel, which was created between 2009 and 2011 in the Polder Het Noorden. The area is owned by Natuurmonumenten and has an area of more than 28 hectares. It is located just southwest of De Schorren.

In the eastern part of the polder "Het Noorden", north of the Stuifweg and west of the Waddijk, there were building and grasslands that had been in the possession of the Association for the Conservation of Natural Monuments in the Netherlands for several years.
Due to lack of financial resources, Natuurmonumenten could not manage the area as a nature reserve and it was partially leased as agricultural land. Thanks to a large contribution from the Wadden Fund, the area could be set up as a nature reserve in 2010. Shallow water features have been created and silty areas have been formed, which are interspersed with a number of islands, which are partly covered with shells.
