Zwartenbergse Polder

Description

Before the St. Elizabeth's Flood took place, the Mark made a sharp turn in a southerly and then north-westerly direction. Peat was mined in this area and there was influence from the Abbey of Thorn, which owned tithe rights here. During this high tide, the Mark was going to cut this bend. The area within this former bend and the current Mark, now enclosed by Mark, Halse Vliet and Leurse Haven, was reclaimed around 1507 by Engelbrecht van Etten. This is how the Zwartenbergse Polder came into being.

There are 5 wind turbines of 2 MegaWatt each in the polder, the turbines were put into operation in February 2013.
