Antes de que ocurriera la inundación de San Isabel, el Mark hacía un giro pronunciado hacia el sur y luego hacia el noroeste. En esta área se extraía turba y había influencia de la Abadía de Thorn, que poseía derechos de diezmo aquí. Durante esta inundación, el Mark cortó este giro. El área dentro de este antiguo giro y el actual Mark, ahora rodeado por Mark, Halse Vliet y Leurse Haven, fue desecada alrededor de 1507 por Engelbrecht van Etten. Así nació la Polder de Zwartenberg.
En la polder hay 5 aerogeneradores de 2 MegaWatts cada uno; los molinos fueron puestos en funcionamiento en febrero de 2013.
