In the hamlet of Donk you can find some beautiful Brabant long-gable farms. A long-gable farmhouse is a rectangular farmhouse type in which the front house, stable and barn are built together and all doors are placed in the long facades.
In the front house, the herd (kitchen) was the most important room. The open fire in the fireplace was mainly used for cooking.
The barn housed a potting shed for the cows, a pigsty, a horse stable and a 'hen's horn' for the chickens. Above the stable was the hayloft.
The barn consisted of two parts. On the side of the stable was the threshing floor where the grain was threshed by hand in the winter months. Behind the threshing floor was the 'bag', where the grain harvest was stored.
