Like numerous country estates, Backershagen also originated from a farm, this farm already existed in 1400.
At the end of the seventeenth century, the farm was used as a country house.
Around 1730 a mansion was built against the east side of the farm, a start was also made with the construction of a beautiful park and the name was changed to Backers-Hagen.
In 1846 it became the property of Prince Frederik of the Netherlands, who lived in the adjacent De Paauw in the summer.
When sold in 1910, the estate was sold in parts. In 1935 the house was radically modernized, the garden was also adapted.
In January 1974, the Backershagen house burned down, after which it burned down in 1985. was demolished. The surrounding park gradually turned into a wilderness. The rebuilding of the house in old forms was completed in 1987.
