It is logical that there used to be many locks in this water-rich area. The vegetables were brought to the auction by boats or other items were transported. This is no longer necessary, but the many locks serve as a means of connection between the canals and lakes for water sports enthusiasts. The lock from 1898 on the Sluispad connects the Aarkanaal via the Keersloot with the Langeraarse Plassen. The lock must be operated by hand and is still in operation. Those who follow the canoe route through Ter Aar can also use this lock.
