The Lock Complex from 1886/88 consists of a dozen monuments, namely two drawbridges, a lockkeeper's office, lock works, and six lantern posts. According to the commemorative plaque, which is mounted on the lockkeeper's office in natural stone, the States of South Holland took on the improvement of navigation in 1885. They ordered the renovation of the lock and the widening of the passage. The designer of the lock works, which consist of a linked lock with two masonry lock chambers, was presumably civil engineer H. De Mol van Otterloo. He worked under chief engineer J. van der Vegt of the Provincial Water Authority of South Holland. The Utrecht architect F.J. Nieuwenhuis designed the office in a Renaissance style, drawing inspiration from the Dutch Renaissance around 1600. The result is a particularly richly decorated building, where every detail pleases the eye and stimulates the imagination. The office was equipped with an entrance portal with columns. This component was destroyed during the war years and was not rebuilt, in favor of traffic on the Lock Square. The iron bridges were manufactured by G.B. Meijer from Musselkanaal and have been modified several times throughout the 20th century. The lantern posts originate from the machine factory of Th. Rouakkers and Sons in Helmond. The cast-iron lantern posts are topped with copper lanterns. The posts stand on high pedestals, which are hexagonal gearboxes, part of the wind works of the locks.
