The chalet was built on the foundations of a Bleekerij annex farmhouse dating from the 17th century. The first stone was laid on May 3, 1839, by the wife of Adriaan van der Hoop, a member of the banking house Hoop & Co. He gave the chalet great fame through his world-renowned collection of plants and crops, as described in the Hortis Spaarnbergens from 1839. Through inheritance, the chalet and estate came into the hands of the Prussian baroness Olga van Gotsh, granddaughter of Adriaan van der Hoop. She married merchant Justus Rudolf Wüste in 1868. Only the living room and a toilet space remain from the interior of that time.
Only the living room and a toilet space remain from the interior of that time. Baroness Olga van Gotsh offered Empress Sissi, also known as Her Majesty Elisabeth of Austria, the chalet as a residence to recover from her rheumatism, according to the therapy of Amsterdam doctor Dr. Mezger during the period from May 2, 1884, to June 10, 1884. Officially, Empress Sissi stayed here several times with and without entourage. However, in 1897, Empress Sissi was brutally murdered by an Italian anarchist.
Thereafter, the chalet served as staff and coachmen's residence annex stables until around the turn of the century. From this time until around 1974, the chalet was owned by the municipality of Santpoort. They rented the chalet several times as a home to individuals and as a forester's house. In 1975, the chalet was designated for the first time as a restaurant.
