The Antigos Paços do Concelho of Caminha date from the 16th century . The building was constructed at a time when Caminha was experiencing economic and strategic prosperity , partly due to its location on the Minho River and proximity to the Atlantic Ocean.
The building once served as the city's old town hall . The upper floor served as a meeting room for the city council, while the ground floor was temporarily used as a bread and flour market.
Today (2024) it houses the tourist office.
