Cafayate es una localidad de la provincia de Salta, Argentina. Se encuentra a 1.683 metros (5.522 pies) sobre el nivel medio del mar, a una distancia de 189 kilómetros (117 millas) de la ciudad de Salta y 1.329 kilómetros (826 millas) de Buenos Aires. Tiene alrededor de 12.000 habitantes (censo 2001 [INDEC]).
La ciudad es un importante centro turístico para explorar los valles calchaquíes, y por la calidad y originalidad de los vinos producidos en la zona. El campo de golf más grande de América del Sur, con 240 acres (0,97 km2), se está desarrollando actualmente a las afueras del centro de la ciudad en La Estancia de Cafayate. [1] La ciudad fue fundada en 1840 por Manuel Fernando de Aramburu, en el sitio de una misión. En 1863 se creó el Departamento de Cafayate, del cual Cafayate es la capital.
