Fue construido para las hermanas de Notre-Dame de Boulogne para servir como sanatorio para niños. Fue implantado en medio de las dunas de Schipgat, con vista al mar. En 2005, la casa Duinen de la asociación de las Hermanas de la Caridad de J.M. Noordprovincie de Gante fue adquirida por el municipio de Koksijde. Esta encantadora villa es el hogar soñado de la oferta educativa sobre naturaleza, medio ambiente y desarrollo sostenible en Koksijde.
