El 16 de agosto de 1925 se fundó la Rheinische Städtebundtheater GmbH con sede en Neuss. Los miembros de la asociación incluyen, además de la ciudad sede de Neuss, las comunidades de Buer, Cleves, Emmerich, Gladbeck, Kohlscheid, Stolberg, así como la comunidad artística de Lüdenscheid y el distrito de Solingen. En 1937 se cambió el nombre a "Rheinisches Landestheater". Para el 30 aniversario del teatro, la ciudad construyó el edificio en la Drususallee, que siguió siendo la sede principal de la escena hasta el año 2000. En 1981, el Rheinisches Landestheater se fusionó con el Teatro am Niederrhein Kleve, con el que ya había cooperado anteriormente. El 16 de diciembre de 2000 se inauguró la nueva sede en el "Horten-Haus", en la Oberstraße.
