Thil es un nombre derivado de la palabra latina que significa tilo. La vida en Thil se remonta a los primeros siglos, y la tradición cuenta que el muro sur de la nave de la iglesia fue construido por San Berchaire, que vivió en el siglo VII d.C. Se tiene constancia de una iglesia primitiva ya en el año 660 d.C., pero el muro sur de la nave es románico y el resto data del siglo XVI. Ya en 845, la abadía de Montier en Der, fundada por San Berchaire, poseía propiedades aquí, pero el feudo pasó a manos de Brienne. La iglesia de la Asunción data de los siglos XII-XVI-XVIII.
