Thil est un nom dérivé du mot latin « tilleul ». La vie à Thil remonte aux premiers siècles, en effet, la tradition veut que le mur sud de la nef de l'église fût construit par Saint Berchaire qui vécut au VIIème après J.C. Une église primitive est attestée dès 660 mais le mur sud de la nef est roman et le reste du XVIème siècle. Dés 845, l'abbaye de Montier en Der, fondée par Saint Berchaire, possédait des biens ici mais le fief relevait de Brienne. L'Eglise de l'Assomption date du 12ème/16ème/18ème siècle. On peut y voir: - des vitraux - et un bas-relief de l'Assomption du 16ème siècle. Population : 138 habitants (Source INSEE-PSDC 1999) Supeficie : 1942 hectares Altitude : 185 mètres
