Vitalie Rimbaud y sus hijos se instalaron en esta casa, que entonces constaba de tres pisos, en 1869. Durante seis años, hasta 1875, vivió en el primer piso, donde el joven Arthur vivió desde los 15 hasta los 21 años, durante un periodo de intensa creación poética. Fue sin duda aquí donde se escribieron algunos de sus poemas mundialmente conocidos.
