Le fort Sint-Jan était un fort près de Trompwal entre Kemzeke et Kapellebrug sur le territoire de la commune de Stekene. Le fort faisait partie des Lignes espagnoles.
Le fort Sint-Jan a été construit à la suite des développements durant les premières années de la Guerre de Quatre-Vingts Ans, lorsque Gand et Anvers se sont joints à l'Union d'Utrecht en 1579. En 1583, les États avaient en outre percé les digues à Saaftinge. En réponse, Parme a fait construire des forts et un pont flottant sur l'Escaut, afin d'empêcher l'approvisionnement d'Anvers. Depuis le fort Sint-Jan, le Parmavaart a été creusé vers la zone inondée. Ainsi, on était assuré de liaisons maritimes vers Gand et Hulst.
