Ici, dans la rue Zirkstraat, a grandi le célèbre chanteur et musicien Willy Cecile Johannes (Wim) Van de Velde, mieux connu sous le nom de Wannes Van de Velde. Sa chanson la plus connue est "Ik Wil deze Nacht in de Straten Verdwalen" (1973). Son père (Jaak Van de Velde) était un métallurgiste et un chanteur talentueux, sa mère (Stéphanie De Wilde) une couturière chanteuse et une femme au foyer. La maison parentale était située au-dessus d'un magasin espagnol Le comptoir de Valence, qui a existé jusqu'en 2016 sous le nom El Valenciano.
