Hier in de Zirkstraat groeide de beroemde zanger en muzikant Willy Cecile Johannes (Wim) Van de Velde beter bekend als Wannes Van de Velde op. Zijn bekendste nummer is "Ik Wil deze Nacht in de Straten Verdwalen" (1973). Zijn vader (Jaak Van de Velde) was een metaalbewerker en begenadigd zanger, zijn moeder (Stéphanie De Wilde) een zingende naaister en huisvrouw. Het ouderlijk huis was gevestigd boven een Spaanse winkel Le comptoir de Valence, die tot 2016 heeft bestaan onder de naam El Valenciano.
