Le Borrelmanneke verse du genièvre d'un tonneau en étant assis sur un bœuf. Entre les pattes de ce bœuf se trouvent des petits cochons. De cette manière, la statue symbolise le cycle qui s'est créé entre les distilleries, l'élevage et l'agriculture.
Une fois par an (pendant les fêtes du genièvre), il ne coule pas d'eau, mais du genièvre de son tonneau.
