Ouvert en 1923, ce cimetière contient les tombes de 1 200 soldats français tombés lors des combats de 1914.
Le monument Assaut (arrière) d'Alexandre Daoust représente la reprise de la citadelle par les Français le 15 août 1914. Plus précisément, il est dédié au sergent- major Bouchez , qui captura le drapeau allemand qui flotte sur la citadelle.
