Ce monument situé sur la place entre l'avenue Henri Paris et l'avenue Leray a été inauguré en 1960.
Il se compose d'un socle quadrangulaire sur marchepied, signé de l'architecte Marcel Tock , et d'un buste en bronze, œuvre de Stella Laurent. Il se caractérise par sa grande sobriété formelle.
Ce buste est un hommage à Albert Ier, roi des Belges de 1909 à 1934, lors d'une période mouvementée pour la Belgique, notamment les turbulences de la Première Guerre mondiale. Le buste fait allusion au roi portant son casque caractéristique d'Adrien .
Un monument à sa femme Elisabeth se trouve à proximité.
