Un lieu de culte existait dès le 10ème siècle à Urrugne, l’édifice fut détruit au début du 16ème siècle. L’église est reconstruite entièrement vers 1550 dans le style Renaissance. Elle subit également l’influence de l’architecture culturelle du Guipuzcoa.
Le clocher porche, d'une hauteur de 45 m, est orné sur sa façade sud, d'un cadran solaire avec la devise « Vulnerant omnes, ultima necat », « Toutes les heures blessent la dernière tue ». L'intérieur vaut le détour pour sa grandeur et son chœur décoré de tapisseries des moines de Belloc. Elle est inscrite à l'inventaire des Monuments Historiques depuis 1925.
