Sur la place Churchill, un bâtiment trompe sur sa fonction. Le fronton porte l'inscription « Palais de Justice » , mais la plaque émaillée du parcours patrimonial de la ville vous renseigne sur l'histoire du bâtiment : un monastère de Capucins .
Des moines capucins venus d'Irlande s'installèrent à Charleville en 1620. Le 12 janvier 1625, l'archevêque de Reims bénit et consacra l'édifice religieux. Le monastère d'origine fut probablement démoli au XVIIIe siècle et remplacé par un second monastère dont la construction débuta en 1782. Pendant la Révolution, le monastère devint une prison . C'est encore la fonction du monastère aujourd'hui.
