Au milieu du vaste paysage de polders de l'Ouest de la Zélande, se trouve Zuidzande [Suusande]. Le nom du village est composé de zand ‘plage de sable’ et zuid ‘situé au sud’. Au 13e siècle, c'était en effet une île située au sud de l'ancienne Île de Cadzand. Sur la place du village, au cœur du village, un restaurant est installé dans l'ancienne Église réformée. Cette église a été retirée au service divin en 1996, faisant ainsi du village le premier village sans église de Zélande.
